The culture we grew up in helps us remain unaware of our identity as ambassadors for Christ. As I mentioned before in the first post, we were raised in Christian families that distanced us from Muslim communities, which contributed to creating a significant gap between Christ’s followers and Muslims.
Additionally, one of the biggest obstacles to reaching Muslims is the incorrect teaching about evangelism. Through my interactions and discussions with my Christian friends, I have observed three common beliefs among most Christians around me that hinder them from sharing the Gospel:
A – We Are Not Qualified
Many times, when I spoke about our role in sharing the Gospel and that Christ commanded us to do so, I encountered this response: “I am not qualified because I am a sinner.” This reminded me of two encounters in the Bible:
Jesus’ encounter with Peter – When Jesus said to him, “Follow me!” He did not care that Peter was a sinner; rather, He told him that He would make him a fisher of men!
Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman – She did not spend years or even days before sharing with her city, and her testimony was impactful.
From this, we conclude that Jesus wants you to share the Gospel even if you are a sinner. He also wants you to turn away from sin because Satan does not want you to share the Gospel at all and feeds you lies—this being one of them!
B – Evangelism Is Not for All Believers
This is also a lie from Satan because, in Matthew twenty-eight, Christ commanded all His disciples to preach the Gospel and heal the sick. If we, too, are Christ’s disciples, then we should always share the Gospel. Evangelism is not a special calling or command for only some believers.
C – Only Through Actions
One of the widespread misconceptions is that evangelism happens only through actions. Some teachers use Matthew five sixteen, claiming that people will believe solely through good deeds. However, this is only part of the truth. Actions alone are not enough to share the Gospel; we must also testify and speak about Christ, not just through our deeds.
From all of this, we conclude that evangelism is a command from Jesus. Therefore, we must evangelize because it is God’s desire for everyone to hear the Gospel!
